Dr. Vineet Talwar Takes Charge as Medical Director of RGCIRC

RGCIRC (Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre) has announced the elevation of Dr. Vineet Talwar as its Medical Director, effective September 1, 2026. A senior medical oncologist with more than two decades of association with RGCIRC, Dr. Talwar brings extensive clinical, academic and research experience to the role.

Dr. Talwar has been serving as Director of Medical Oncology at RGCIRC and has been associated with the Department of Medical Oncology since May 2000. Over the years, he has played an important role in strengthening the institute’s medical oncology practice, while contributing to clinical research, academic training and multidisciplinary cancer care.

A DM in Medical Oncology from the Cancer Institute, Adyar, Chennai, Dr. Talwar has authored more than 140 publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals. His clinical areas of interest include genitourinary oncology, gastrointestinal oncology, hepatopancreatobiliary oncology and breast oncology. He has also been actively involved in Phase II, III and IV clinical trials and has served in several academic and institutional roles, including as an examiner for DNB Medical Oncology trainees.

His professional affiliations include the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), Indian Society of Oncology (ISO) and Indian Cooperative Oncology Network (ICON). He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians(FRCP), Edinburgh, and has received several recognitions over the course of his career, including the Chikitsa Ratan Award and multiple academic orations.

In his new role as Medical Director, Dr. Talwar will work closely with RGCIRC’s leadership and clinical teams to further strengthen multidisciplinary cancer care, quality standards, academic programmes and research initiatives across the institute.

Dr. Talwar’s elevation comes at a time when RGCIRC continues to expand its clinical and research capabilities and deepen its focus on multidisciplinary, evidence-based oncology. His appointment reflects the institute’s emphasis on strengthening medical leadership from within while building on established expertise and institutional continuity.
