HCG Cancer Centre Bengaluru Organises Women’s Bikeathon ‘Brake for Breast Cancer’ to Promote Early Detection
Leading biker clubs supported the 12 km rally inspiring women to take charge of their breast health through self-exams and preventive screenings
HCG Cancer Centre, Bengaluru, organised a Women’s Bikeathon under the inspiring theme ‘Brake for Breast Cancer’ to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The 12 km Bikeathon, which started and concluded at HCG Cancer Centre, Bengaluru, took participants through key stretches of the city in a symbolic ride promoting awareness and action. The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 300 women riders and was flagged off by Ms. Manisha Kumar, Chief Operating Officer – Karnataka, Healthcare Global Enterprises Ltd., alongside Dr. Smitha Saldanha, Consultant Medical Oncology, HCG Cancer Centre, Bengaluru. The initiative aimed to bring together women from across the city, promoting unity and awareness, and encouraging them to take proactive steps toward their breast health through regular self-examinations and timely screenings.
As part of the awareness effort, all women bikers received free breast examinations and mammogram. This symbolic yet powerful gesture reinforced the hospital’s commitment to preventive healthcare and early detection, which remain the most effective weapons against breast cancer.
The event received strong community backing, with Biker Saviours Bengaluru, Bharath on Wheels, and 16 other major biker clubs lending their support. Together, they aimed to turn this ride into a vibrant celebration of women’s strength, solidarity, and health awareness. Breast cancer is considered the most common cancer among Indian women, driven by urbanisation, lifestyle changes, and delayed diagnosis.
Ms. Manisha Kumar, Chief Operating Officer – Karnataka, Healthcare Global Enterprises Ltd., said, “As we mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the ‘Brake for Breast Cancer’ Bikeathon is more than just a ride, it is a movement to raise awareness and inspire action. By bringing women together, we hope to empower them to take charge of their health and embrace proactive care. Early detection saves lives, and through initiatives like this, HCG aims to instill confidence, hope, and a sense of community among women across Bengaluru.”
Dr. Smitha Saldanha, Consultant Medical Oncology, HCG Cancer Centre, Bengaluru. said, “Every 60 seconds, four women receive a breast cancer diagnosis worldwide, and one loses her life to the disease, with numbers continuing to rise. Through this event, we not only raise awareness but also provide women with free breast examinations and mammograms, giving them a clear understanding of their breast health. Encouraging regular self-exams, timely screenings, and healthy lifestyle choices are essential steps in reducing risk and ensuring better outcomes.”
HCG’s mission is to empower communities through knowledge, compassion, and proactive healthcare and this event is the testament of it. By merging fitness, awareness, and preventive screening, HCG continues to drive its vision of making cancer care accessible, inclusive, and impactful all over the country.
