Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road Observes World Pneumonia Day 2025 — Focus on “Child Survival” and Preventive Care

Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, joined the global healthcare community in observing World Pneumonia Day 2025, held every year on November 12 to raise awareness about pneumonia a preventable yet deadly infectious disease that continues to claim millions of lives worldwide, particularly among children under the age of five.

The official theme for 2025, “Child Survival,” underscores the urgent global call to protect children through improved nutrition, clean air, vaccination, and access to timely diagnosis and treatment. Led by the Every Breath Counts Coalition, this year’s campaign aims to unite healthcare institutions, policymakers, and communities to reduce pneumonia deaths and advance global child survival goals.

At Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, medical experts emphasized that pneumonia remains one of the most significant yet overlooked public health threats. Despite being preventable and treatable, it remains the leading infectious cause of death among young children largely due to late diagnosis, lack of awareness, and limited access to quality medical care.

Dr. Sanggita Checker, Consultant Pulmonologist at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, said,“Pneumonia is often underestimated, but its impact, especially on children and the elderly, is profound. Simple measures such as timely vaccination, good nutrition, maintaining clean indoor air, and seeking early medical attention for symptoms like fever, cough, or breathing difficulty can prevent most cases. At Wockhardt Hospitals, we remain dedicated to promoting awareness and providing world-class respiratory care to help reduce the burden of pneumonia in our communities.”

In observance of World Pneumonia Day, Wockhardt Hospitals reaffirmed its commitment to community health through awareness initiatives, vaccination drives, and education campaigns focused on respiratory disease prevention.
