HCG Suchirayu Hospitals marks World Heart Day with community walkathon to promote heart-healthy living in Hubballi
Held under the theme ‘Adjust Maadbedi, Walk Madi, Care Madi’, the initiative encouraged people to make regular physical activity a part of everyday life
The walkathon brought together the community to raise awareness around cardiovascular health and preventive care
On account of World Heart Day, HCG Suchirayu Hospital Hubballi, organised ‘World Heart Day Walkathon’, that witnessed a great participation & a total of more than 500 people came together to spread awareness around healthy heart. Held under the theme “Adjust Maadbedi, Walk Madi, Care Madi,” the walkathon encouraged participants to embrace an active lifestyle, make movement a part of their daily routine, and take proactive steps towards maintaining better heart health.
The event was graced by Shri. Prasad Abbayya, Hon’ble MLA, Hubballi-Dharwad East Assembly Constituency, as the Chief Guest. Shri. Borase Bhushan Gulabrao, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police & Commissioner of Police, Hubballi-Dharwad District, and Dr. Parshuram F.K., District Health Officer (DHO), Dharwad District, attended as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri. Prasad Abbayya, Hon’ble MLA, Hubballi-Dharwad East Assembly Constituency, said, “A healthy community begins with healthy individuals, and initiatives like this encourage people to take greater responsibility for their well-being. It is heartening to see citizens come together for a cause that promotes a healthier and more active Hubballi-Dharwad.”
Shri. Borase Bhushan Gulabrao, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police & Commissioner of Police, Hubballi-Dharwad District, said, “Walking is one of the simplest ways to bring physical activity into our everyday lives. Community initiatives like this help turn awareness into action and encourage people across age groups to make fitness a regular part of their routine.”
Highlighting the importance of preventive healthcare, Dr. Parshuram F.K., District Health Officer (DHO), Dharwad District, said, “Preventive healthcare requires sustained awareness and participation from the community. Encouraging regular physical activity, timely health checks and awareness of cardiovascular risk factors can help people take better charge of their heart health.”
Emphasising the role of everyday lifestyle choices, Dr. Narendra Hiregoudar, Senior Interventional Cardiologist, HCG Suchirayu Hospital, Hubballi, said, “Heart health is closely linked to the choices we make every day. Regular physical activity, a balanced diet and timely monitoring of risk factors such as blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol can play an important role in preventing cardiovascular disease.”
Dr. Sharan Hallad, Senior CTVS Surgeon, HCG Suchirayu Hospital, Hubballi, added, “While advances in cardiac care have significantly improved treatment outcomes, prevention remains equally important. Recognising warning signs, understanding individual risk factors and seeking medical attention at the right time can make a meaningful difference.”
Speaking about the importance of early action, Dr. Ameet Sattur, Senior Interventional Cardiologist, HCG Suchirayu Hospital, Hubballi, said, “Heart disease can develop silently, which is why people should not wait for symptoms before thinking about their cardiovascular health. Regular screening and consistent lifestyle changes can help identify and manage risks early.”
The walkathon was organised in association with the Indian Medical Association (IMA), State Bank of India (SBI), District Health Officer, Dharwad, Deshpande Foundation, Lions Club, Obsession Run Club, Ayush Federation of India, Dharwad, Sanjeevani Ayurveda Medical College & Hospital, Hubballi, and Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM, bringing together stakeholders from healthcare and the wider community in support of better heart health.
As part of the initiative, participants were offered free health check-ups and health coupons, reinforcing the importance of preventive screening and regular monitoring. Participants also received T-shirts, caps, bands and water bottles, followed by refreshments and breakfast after completing the walkathon.
Through the initiative, HCG Suchirayu Hospitals aimed to strengthen community awareness around cardiovascular disease prevention and emphasise that heart-healthy living does not necessarily require drastic changes.
