Powai Walks for a Cause: Dr. L H Hiranandani Hospital, Powai Leads Walkathon to Promote Early Detection of Breast Cancer
As part of its ongoing initiative to promote breast cancer awareness, Dr. L H Hiranandani Hospital, Powai organised an inspiring Breast Cancer Awareness Walkathon. The event was graced by Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani, Founder and Managing Director of the Hiranandani Group, along with Dr. Sameer Kulkarni, CEO, Dr. L H Hiranandani Hospital, leading doctors, medical experts, and breast cancer survivors. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 1,200 people from across the community.
The 3 km-kilometre walk commenced and concluded at Atal Garden, drawing strong community participation and support. Following the walk, hospital volunteers staged a 15-minute street play to spread awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. The event also featured inspiring addresses by Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani, Dr. Sameer Kulkarni, and Oncologist Dr. Namita Pandey, who emphasized the critical importance of regular screening and timely treatment.
A highlight of the day was the felicitation of eight Breast Cancer Survivor Champions who have courageously conquered the disease and now serve as beacons of hope and inspiration for others. Their stories of strength and resilience underscored the life-saving power of early detection and quality treatment.
Applauding the initiative, Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani said, “The first step towards saving lives is through awareness. We have to make conversations about breast cancer and regular screening a part of our daily lives, not just in awareness month. Every woman deserves access to timely diagnosis and quality care. And efforts like these bring that change closer to reality.”
Dr. Namita Pandey, Breast Cancer Surgeon, Dr. L H Hiranandani Hospital, shared her perspective, stating, “Breast cancer is not a death sentence if detected early. Awareness and regular screening empower women to take control of their health. The sooner it’s found, the better the chances of a complete cure.”
Every year, thousands of women in India are diagnosed with breast cancer, often at an advanced stage when treatment becomes more difficult. In Mumbai, breast cancer accounts for nearly 30% of all female cancers, yet less than 2% of women undergo regular screening, reflecting low awareness and limited uptake of early detection. These alarming figures highlight the urgent need to raise awareness, promote regular screening, and ensure timely treatment.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sameer Kulkarni, CEO, Dr. L H Hiranandani Hospital, said, “The women of our country are a national treasure. For such a serious disease, early detection is
the only key to higher survival rates. Our aim is to reach the masses and encourage all women to stay informed, stay alert, and never ignore early signs or symptoms. The hospital stands strong in its commitment to promoting preventive healthcare and community wellness through sustained outreach and awareness programs.”
This annual Walk for a Cause by Dr. L H Hiranandani Hospital, Powai continues to champion the message of regular check-ups, early detection, and timely treatment, significantly improving survival rates and offering hope for a healthier tomorrow.
