Pedal for a Cause: Aster Whitefield’s Cyclothon Marks World Heart Day with a Mission
Blending Preventive Care with Community Responsibility this World Heart Day
Bengaluru, today, witnessed an inspiring display of fitness and community spirit as over 500 cyclists participated in the Cyclothon, organised by Aster Whitefield Hospital, to mark World Heart Day. The 10-km ride not only promoted awareness around heart health but also carried a noble mission of raising funds to support life-saving heart surgeries for children in need.
The event, held in collaboration with Aster Volunteers, the CSR arm of Aster DM Healthcare, strengthened the hospital’s vision of blending care with community responsibility.
Adding to the significance of the day, Aster Whitefield Hospital officially launched its state-of-the-art Heart Failure Clinic, aimed at providing advanced diagnosis, treatment, and long-term care for patients at risk of heart failure.
The clinic will be driven by two leading experts:
Prof. Dr. Nagamalesh U M, Lead Consultant – Cardiology & Interventional Cardiology, Director – Heart Failure, Transplant & MCS Program.
Dr. Naveen Chandra G S, HOD and Lead Consultant – Department of Interventional Cardiology
Speaking about the initiative, Srikant Subudhi, Chief Operating Officer, said, “With this Cyclothon, we wanted to show that healthcare goes beyond hospital walls. It is about inspiring people to take charge of their heart health while also standing together for a larger cause. This event truly reflects our commitment to care, community, and compassion.”
Adding a medical perspective, Prof. Dr. Nagamalesh U M shared, “Heart care doesn’t begin with surgery or medication, it begins with prevention. Cycling symbolises endurance, discipline, and balance all key to a healthy heart. Through initiatives like this, we hope to create awareness that prevention is as important as treatment.”
The spirit of community participation was also emphasised by Dr. Naveen Chandra G S, who said, “The Cyclothon is proof of what collective action can achieve. By riding together, we are not just promoting fitness but also giving children with heart conditions a chance at life. Small steps at an individual level, when combined with community spirit, can create a powerful impact.”
With a blend of fitness, awareness, and social good, the Cyclothon promised to be more than just a sporting event and emerged as a movement towards building a healthier, more compassionate Bengaluru.
