HCG Bhavnagar Successfully Hosts City’s First National Workshop on Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery

Five live surgeries performed at the National Workshop on MICS and expert-led sessions marked a milestone in advancing regional cardiac care

In a significant step toward advancing cardiac surgery education in regional India, HCG Hospitals Bhavnagar hosted the city’s first-ever National Workshop on Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS). The event brought together cardiac specialists from across India for an intensive, hands-on learning experience that blended live surgical demonstrations with expert-led sessions.

The workshop was led by Dr. Brajmohan Singh, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon, HCG Hospitals, Bhavnagar, who performed five live MICS surgeries through the day. Each surgery offered participants a unique, real-time learning experience, with direct exposure to techniques aimed at reducing surgical trauma and supporting faster patient recovery. Dr. Brajmohan Singh, Cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon, HCG Hospitals, Bhavnagar, “This workshop reflects the heart of our mission at HCG Hospitals—to ensure that cutting- edge surgical techniques are not confined to metropolitan centres. Through focused training and clinical collaboration, we’re working to make advanced cardiac care more accessible to both patients and practitioners in regional India. MICS represents the future of heart surgery—with smaller incisions, quicker recovery, and fewer complications, it significantly enhances patient outcomes. By training more surgeons in these methods, we’re not just sharing expertise; we’re strengthening the foundation of safer, precision-driven cardiac care across the country.”

Dr. Siddhrajsinh Vala, Senior Interventional Cardiologist at HCG Hospital, Bhavnagar, said, “Expanding access to quality cardiac care in Tier 3 cities is no longer optional—it’s an urgent need. Improving outcomes beyond metros begins with timely diagnosis and infrastructure, but it doesn’t end there. We need trained professionals who can respond with both speed and clinical confidence. At HCG Hospitals, our goal is to build systems where expertise, equipment, and accessibility work hand in hand. It’s about creating a care model that reaches patients where they are—not just in big cities, but at the community level where the need is often greatest.”

The workshop also featured a walkthrough of HCG Bhavnagar’s state-of-the-art Cath Lab and Cardiac Sciences Department, which has consistently delivered strong clinical outcomes across Bhavnagar and neighbouring districts.  Participants had the opportunity to observe first-hand the infrastructure and capabilities that have made the centre a trusted destination for heart care in the region. This national-level event reaffirms HCG Bhavnagar’s commitment to democratizing healthcare access and driving innovation from the ground level. The workshop reinforces its position as a training and care centre focused on clinical excellence, innovation, and impact.
