Dr. L H Hiranandani Hospital Organizes Street Plays in Powai to Spread Awareness Around Breast Cancer

In a move to commemorate World Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. L H Hiranandani Hospital, Powai, organised street plays across various locations in the hospital neighbourhood. Under this initiative, a group of volunteers performed 15-minute plays at prominent community spots, starting at the hospital and moving to D Mart, Powai Old Market, which conveyed an important message about breast health, early detection, and regular screening. The activity drew an overall audience of approximately 400 to 500 individuals across all locations where the play was performed.

The idea behind the initiative was to get people talking about breast awareness in an open and relatable environment, to ensure the message reaches the public in an entertaining yet informative manner. The cases of breast cancer are increasing at a multi-fold pace, with around 1.8 lakh women in India being detected with this condition in a year. This move is an effort from the hospital to bring alive the importance of being wary of breast cancer and taking preventive measures.

Speaking about the activity, Dr. Sameer Kulkarni, CEO, Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital said, “Breast cancer awareness isn’t just about campaigns inside hospitals, it’s a community conversation. Even one person deciding to go for a screening after seeing the play means we’ve made a difference. Early detection saves lives, and that begins with awareness.

As a community-centric healthcare institution, we endeavour to ensure health and well-being prevail and prosper in society, and this initiative is in line with the same.”

The event was part of the hospital’s ongoing Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities and also a lead-up to the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk planned at Heritage Garden, Powai for Sunday, November 9, where residents, survivors and supporters will come together to promote awareness and celebrate the spirit of hope.  Dr LH Hiranandani Hospital continues to engage with the community through various outreach initiatives that focus on preventive health and education.
